Investor bullish about snack food in Uganda

Pearl Capital Partners, a private equity firm operating in Uganda, recently invested in snack food manufacturer Newman Foods via its Yield Uganda Investment Fund. This is the fund’s 14th investment in the Ugandan agribusiness and food sector. Jeanette Clark speaks to Wanjohi Ndagu, co-managing partner at Pearl Capital Partners, about the motivation for the investment, the potential he sees in the snacks industry and opportunities to export food products to the wider East African region.

Ugandan snacks maker Newman Foods clinches investment from Yield Fund for expansion

Yield Uganda Investment Fund, an agribusiness impact vehicle, has channeled an equity investment to Newman Foods, an agro-processing company based in Kampala.

Newman Foods focuses on the production and marketing of branded consumer foods sold through retail stores in the local and regional markets, as well as the aggregation and export of fresh fruits and vegetables (FFV) to the European market.

Uganda’s Pearl Capital strikes another deal in agri sector.

Yield Uganda Investment Fund, an agribusiness impact investment vehicle managed by Pearl Capital Partners, has struck its second deal of the year after hacking a Ugandan agriculture supply chain firm last month. The fund, alongside Danish investor Gorm Pedersen, has invested in Ugandan pelleted animal feed processing, marketing, and distribution company Kamp.
