Open Society Foundations

The Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros, are the world’s largest private funder of independent groups working for justice, democratic governance, and human rights. George Soros opened his first international foundation in Hungary in 1984.

Today, the Open Society Foundations support a vast array of projects in more than 120 countries, providing hundreds of grants every year through a network of national and regional foundations and offices.

FCA Investments (FCAI)

Finn Church Aid (FCA) is the largest Finnish NGO in international aid. We operate in 14 countries, where the needs are most dire.

We work with the poorest people, regardless of their religious beliefs, ethnic background or political convictions.

Our work is based on rights, which means that our operations are guided by equality, non-discrimination and responsibility.

European Union

The European Union is a unique economic and political union between 28 European countries that together cover much of the European continent.

What began as a purely economic union has evolved into an organization spanning policy areas, from climate, environment and health to external relations and security, justice and migration.

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) invests in rural people, empowering them to reduce poverty, increase food security, improve nutrition and strengthen resilience.

Since 1978, IFAD has provided about US$18 billion in grants and low-interest loans to projects that have reached some 462 million people.

IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency based in Rome – the UN’s food and agriculture hub.

National Social Security Fund (NSSF)

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is National Saving Scheme mandated by Government through the National Social Security Fund Act, Cap 222 (Laws of Uganda) to provide social security services to employees in Uganda.

NSSF is a provident fund (pays out contributions in lump sum). It covers all employees in the private sector including Non-Governmental Organizations that are not covered by the Government’s pension scheme.

J.P. Morgan is the investment banking arm of JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM), a leading global financial services firm with assets of $2.2 trillion and operations in more than 60 countries.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

USAID is a U.S. government agency that provides economic, development, and humanitarian assistance around the world in support of the foreign policy goals of the United States.

USAID’s Development Credit Authority, established by Congress in 1999, unlocks local capital through loan guarantees for sectors including agriculture, health, housing, clean energy, infrastructure, microfinance, and education.

The Gatsby Charitable Foundation

The Gatsby Foundation has worked in East Africa since 1985 with the objective of improving incomes and opportunities for the poor.

Programmes are mostly in agriculture, where returns to the poor are greatest and the Foundation can leverage its expertise.

Gatsby focuses on ambitious sector development programmes, where we partner with the public and private sectors to identify and tackle constraints to growth.

Gatsby plays a catalytic role with new ideas, and then invest in success so that interventions are sustainable.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

Guided by the belief that every life has equal value, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives.

In developing countries, it focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty.

In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all people, especially those with the fewest resources, have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life.

Based in Seattle, Washington, the foundation is led by CEO Jeff Raikes and Co-chair William H. Gates Sr., under the direction of Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett.

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa(AGRA)

AGRA invests in the African Seed Investment Fund. It is a dynamic, African-led partnership working across the African continent to help millions of small-scale farmers and their families lift themselves out of poverty and hunger.

AGRA programs develop practical solutions to significantly boost farm productivity and incomes for the poor while safeguarding the environment.

AGRA advocates for policies that support its work across all key aspects of the African agricultural “value chain”, from seeds, soil health, and water to markets and agricultural education.

AGRA, with initial support from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, maintains offices in Nairobi, Kenya and Accra, Ghana. 

Volksvermogen NV

Volksvermogen NV is a Belgium-resident investment company operating from the city of Ghent.

It invests in two specific areas: the social economy sector, aiming at an optimum combination of financial and social; and in innovative projects offering sustainable perspectives.
